어찌하여 너는 남의 눈 속에 있는 티는 보면서, 네 눈속에 있는 들보는 깨닫지 못하느냐?

"And why worry about a speck in your friend's eye when you have a log in your own?

[Matthew 7:3, NLT]

Summary

오늘 성경의 말씀은 내가 크게 잘못한 것은 가볍게 생각하고,

남이 조금만 잘못을 해도 아주 크게 화를 내는 모습을 보여주는 거에요.

여러분도 그런 경험을 해본 적이 있지요?

성경은 사람에게 그런 나쁜 마음이 있는 이유는 죄 때문이라고 말합니다.

The words of the Bible today show that I take lightly what I have done wrongly, and get very angry when others make a small mistake. Have you ever had such an experience? The Bible says that the reason people have such a bad heart is because of sin.

게임이나 경기를 할 때 내가 이기지 못할 거라면 시작도 안하려고 하는 것도

남들보다 더 잘하는 것이 있을 때 다른 사람들을 깔보는 것도

다 똑같지요.

When it comes to games or matches, trying not to even start if I'm not going to win, and looking down on other people when there's something I'm better at than others are all the same.

예쁜 정원에 가보면, 여러가지 색깔과 모양의 꽃들이 피어있어요.

다 예쁜데, 어떤게 가장 예쁜지, 제일 안 예쁜지 사람들은 자꾸 순서를 정하고 싶어해요. 그렇지만, 사실 순서를 정할 수는 없어요. 다 각자가 가진 아름다움이 있고, 각자 약점도 있어요.

If you go to a pretty garden, flowers of various colors and shapes are blooming. They are all pretty, but people keep wanting to decide which order is the prettiest or the least. However, you can't really set the order. Everyone has their own beauty, and each has weaknesses.

지난 번에 보았던 에릭 리델이라는 달리기 선수는 경기 시작 전에 모든 선수들과 악수하며 인사하며 서로 열심히 하자! 이렇게 격려했어요. 그는 금메달을 따고 1등을 하는 것 보다 더 중요한 것은 정말로 자신이 연습하고 노력한 만큼 해내는 것이라고 알고 있었거든요.

The runner named Eric Liddell we saw last time shakes hands with all the runners before the start of the race, let's do what we can do! He knew that more important than winning a gold medal and getting first place was really that he did as much as he practiced and worked hard.

우리 모두는 잘 할 수 있는 것이 있고, 잘 할 수 없는 것이 있어요.

We all have things we are good at and things we are not good at.

손이 발에게 너는 컵을 집을 수도 없고, 그림도 그릴 수 없으니 쓸모없어! 이렇게 말할 수 있나요? 발이 없으면 아무데도 갈 수 없잖아요. 눈이 입에게 너는 볼 수 없으니 쓸모가 없어! 이렇게 말할 수 있나요? 입이 없다면 밥도, 스낵도, 물도 마실 수 없고 그러면 살 수도 없잖아요? 하나님은 우리들을 다 다르게 만드셨어요. 생김새도 다르고, 잘하는 것도, 잘 못하는 것도 다 달라요. 

Hands to feet, you can't pick up a cup, you can't draw, so it's useless! Can you say this? You can't go anywhere without your feet. Eyes to mouth, you can't see, so it's useless! Can you say this? If you don't have a mouth, you can't eat, snack, or drink water, and then you can't live, right? God made us all different. They look different, and what they are good at and what they are not good at are all different.

그래서 잘하는 것이 있다고 너무 잘난척을 해서도 안되고, 잘 못하는 것이 있다고 너무 슬퍼할 필요도 없어요. 

So, there is no need to be too proud of what you are good at, and there is no need to be too sad about what you are not good at.

엄마, 아빠에겐 가장 예쁘고 사랑스러운 자녀인 것처럼, 정원을 가꾸는 정원사에게 모든 꽃들이 다 아름다운 것처럼, 여러분은 다 소중하고 사랑스럽습니다.

누구보다 뭘 더 잘해서가 아니에요. 

To Mom and Dad, you are the prettiest and most lovable children, and to the gardener, all flowers are beautiful, you are all precious and lovable. It's not about doing something better than others.

그래서 잘 못하는 것이 많아 보이는 사람들을 볼 때에 놀리는 것은 나쁜 마음이죠. 나도 잘 못하는 것이 있으면서 말이에요. 

That's why it's bad to make fun of people who seem to have a lot of things they're not good at. When there are things I'm not good at too.

친구들을 볼 때, 그보다는 잘하는 것이 뭔지 볼 줄 알면 참 좋을 것 같아요.

이 친구는 그림을 참 잘 그리는 구나. 글씨를 참 예쁘게 쓰는 구나. 마음씨가 참 따뜻하구나! 이렇게요.

When I see my friends, I think it would be great if I knew what they were good at. This guy is really good at drawing. You write so beautifully. Your heart is so warm! like this

그리고 그거면 충분해요.

And that is good enough.

  1. 여러분이 잘하는 것, 잘못하는 것은 뭐가 있나요?
    What are you good at and what are you terrible at?

  2. 무언가를 잘하는 것이 그 사람을 더 소중하게 만들어주나요?
    Does being good at something make that person more valuable?

Prayer

하나님 아버지,

세상은 누가 더 잘하고, 너 높고 또 더 못하고, 더 낮은 것을 계속해서 순위를 만듭니다. 더 잘하면 교만해지고, 더 못하면 열등감에 시달립니다. 하나님이 우리를 어떻게 지으셨고 우리를 얼마나 귀하게 여기시는지 알게 하소서. 각자에게 주신 아룸다움을을 보며 누구보다 더 잘해서가 아니라, 그 자체로 기뻐하고, 감사하고, 축하할 수 있는 우리가 되게 해주세요!

우리가 아직 죄인이었을 때에 우리를 대신해 십자가를 지실 만큼 우리를 사랑하셨던 예수님을 기억합니다.

예수님 이름으로 기도합니다.

아멘.

Heavenly Father,

the world continues to rank who is better, who is higher, who is worse, and who is lower. If we do better, we become arrogant, and if we do poorly, we suffer from a sense of inferiority. Help us to know how God made us and how precious we are to You. Let us be able to rejoice, thank, and celebrate in itself, not because we do better than anyone else! 

We remember Jesus, who loved us enough to bear the cross for us while we were still sinners. 

I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
